Job Responsibilities:

The Coordinator for Policy Services works with the Manager of Policy Services to provide assistance to school districts throughout New York State in the area of policy development, development and maintenance of policy and administrative manuals, specialty handbooks, and other policy related areas.

The Coordinator also provides assistance in monitoring of home school instruction to School Districts participating in the service along with the Manager of Policy Services/Home School Monitoring Service. Reviews each student’s Individual Home Instruction Plan (IHIP), quarterly reports, and annual assessment, ensuring full compliance with the Commissioner’s regulations.

  1. Develops and maintains Board policy, administrative manuals and specialty handbooks for client school districts.
  2. Conducts professional development workshops and facilitations on policy, regulations and procedures for client school district personnel including Board members, administrators and teachers.
  3. Researches law, regulations and other relevant policy matters as they impact school operations.
  4. Assists in the development of policy and administrative updates and other relevant documents that support the services of the department.
  5. Responds to policy related inquiries by participating districts.
  6. Assists school districts in complying with federal and state mandates.
  7. Maintains positive communications and relationships with assigned participating districts.
  8. Informs Policy staff of any legislative directives/changes and the legal implications of these mandates.
  9. Assists the Program Manager in developing new policy services and evaluating present policy services.
  10. Works in collaboration with Manager to review and respond to home-schooling documentation required by Commissioner’s Regulations Part 100 and NYSED, including but not limited to IHIPs, quarterly reports, and annual assessments. Maintains a database to track and monitor the progress of all Home-Schooling students.
  11. Reviews and maintains home-schooling documentation requests as received from the district’s designated staff member/contact person.
  12. Other duties may be assigned that are relevant to the civil service job description for this title.
Job Qualifications

Minimum Civil Service Qualifications:
Must hold permanent status as a Coordinator, Policy Services; or; Must meet minimum qualifications for provisional appointment as follows:

A) Possession of a Master’s Degree in Business, Public Administration, Education or closely related field and one (1) year of experience performing research or communications activities relating to either governmental planning or K-12 school operations; or;

B) Possession of a bachelor’s degree in Business, Public Administration, Education or closely related field and three (3) years experience performing research or communications activities relating to either governmental planning or K-12 school operations; or;

C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
