7:30 AM – 3:30 PM

Job Responsibilities:

Seeking a confident and motivated individual to serve as a leader in an Assistant Principal position supporting programs for special needs learners.  Must hold certification as a School Building Leder in NYS.  Must have teaching and/or leadership experience in special education.  Must be highly organized and work successfully in collaboration with other professionals.    

A strong knowledge and understanding of educational disabilities and instructional best practices, student management and restorative practices preferred.

Curriculum and Instruction

  1. Works with the organization, direction and evaluation of all instruction within the building
  2. Reviews with staff instructional materials, supplies and equipment for appropriateness and relevance to the program
  3. Reviews with staff course outlines to determine areas in need of improvement
  4. Assists with annual evaluations of all program areas

 

Management of Teaching and Auxiliary Staff

  1. Assists with evaluation and supervision of both instructional and classified staff
  2. Prepares reports related to staff evaluation and operation
  3. Participates in decisions on tenure, retention, dismissal, and promotion of all staff
  4. Assists with selection of staff both instructional and classified

 

Student Management

  1. Assists home schools in the registration and scheduling of students in the Alternative Education program
  2. Maintains up to date student information for teacher utilization
  3. Assists in procedures relating to health, safety, discipline, and conduct of students assigned to the program
  4. Provides a system of communication between and among students, staff, and parents

 

Buildings, Grounds, and Maintenance

  1. Assists with planning and supervision of the maintenance program
  2. Prepares recommendations for annual upgrading of equipment for facilities

 

Public Relations/Communications

  1. Assists with the development of effective communication linkages between home, home school and center
  2. Prepares materials for use in the BOCES Public Relation Program

 

Administrative

  1. Performs such tasks and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal
  2. Assists with orientation of new staff
  3. Conducts staff meetings
  4. Other duties as assigned
Job Qualifications
  • Must hold a valid NYS Certification in School Building Leader or School District Leader

  • Successful teaching experience within Special Education

  • Experience in coordination, coaching and/or program supervision.
