Job Responsibilities:

The 9-12 Specialist will support the Exceptional Education Division by focusing on aligning curriculum, instruction, documentation, and professional learning for student graduation measures and pathways in grade levels 9-12. The role operates under the direction of the Exceptional Education Director. The Specialist plans, organizes, and implements educational services, in accordance with Federal, State, and 
local laws and rules. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Senior Supervisor of Instructional Services.

  1. Responsible for all preparations required to support student opportunities through New York State Education Graduation Pathways, in compliance with state graduation measures. 
  2. Responsible for coordinating and supporting District approved Exceptional Education Focus Groups, Committee, and Summer Curriculum initiatives as related to NYSED Graduation Pathways. 
  3. Responsible for supporting Professional Learning sessions related to student Graduation Measures and Pathways on E1B Staff Development Days including: action plan, implementation, curriculum review, reporting, budget and accountability in collaboration with Instructional Service designees, Building Administration, and Exceptional Education teachers and support staff. 
  4. Responsible for supporting building level staff in the tracking and reporting of documentation required for NYS Graduation Pathways. 
  5. Responsible for, in collaboration with Instructional Services designees, all aspects of 9-12 Graduation Pathway Professional Learning sessions on Staff Development Days. 
  6. Works with Sr. Supervisor to implement new instructional initiatives in alignment with student graduation opportunities. 
  7. Represent Exceptional Education 9-12 initiatives in Curriculum Council and facilitation of action plans to support respective Curriculum Council initiatives pertaining to Graduation Pathways. 
  8. Responsible for, in collaboration with Exceptional Education designee, all aspects of E1B New Hire Training and New Hire Make-up Training sessions as pertaining to Graduation Pathways. 
  9. Other duties may be assigned that are relevant to the civil service job description for this title.

Job Qualifications

Minimum Civil Service Qualifications:

 Must meet minimum qualifications for provisional appointment as follows:

A) Masters Degree in Education or related field with a valid NYS Teacher Certification and two (2) years of experience working with the New York State Graduation Pathways for alternative education programs or students with disabilities; or;

B) Bachelors Degree in Education or related field with a NYS Teacher Certification and four (4) years of experience working with the New York State Graduation Pathways for alternative education programs or students with disabilities; or;

C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must hold and maintain a valid NYS Teaching Certification 
  • Must hold and maintain a valid NYS driver's license

Additional Qualifications:

  • Must take upcoming Erie County Civil Service Exam for SPECIALIST OF CURRICULUM, INSTRUCTION AND ASSESSMENT once announced.
  • Thorough knowledge of Federal and State education laws and rules
  • Thorough knowledge of state graduation measures
  • Good knowledge of student opportunities through NYS Education Graduation Pathways
  • Good knowledge of classroom curriculum
  • Ability to utilize industry appropriate software and data management systems
  • Ability to assist in implementing new instructional initiatives in alignment with student graduation opportunities
  • Ability to represent the Exceptional Education initiatives in Curriculum Council and facilitate action plans
  • Ability to administer Professional Learning Sessions on Staff Development Days
  • Ability to track and report data thoroughly
