Job Qualifications

Minimum Civil Service Qualifications:      

  1. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four (4) year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of data processing experience in vendor supplied operating systems software programming and/or maintenance; OR;
  2. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two (2) or four (4) year college or university with an Associate’s degree in Data Processing, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field and three (3) years of data processing experience in vendor supplied operating systems software programming and/or maintenance; OR;
  3. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and five (5) years of data processing experience, at least three (3) years of which involved computer programming with at least two (2) years in vendor supplied operating systems software programming and/or maintenance; OR;
  4. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) (B) and (C).

 

Erie 1 BOCES has an immediate opening for a Data Support Specialist (Microcomputer Decision Support Specialist) to assist school districts with the data collection and reporting process for mandated state reporting.  Responsibilities include helping school personnel understand state reporting requirements; correcting errors in data collection; managing critical data flows and timelines; developing training materials and documentation; and keeping the schools on track with deadlines. The successful candidate will be analytical with good communication skills and be comfortable training in a one-on-one or small group situation. At least two years experience in software programming, software support, student management systems, databases, or data analysis is required. Knowledge of NY state education department regulations is a plus. Travel to assigned school district locations in Western New York is required.
