Job Responsibilities:
1. Knowledge of server hardware architectures.
2. Maintains daily logs of work performed.
3. Install operating system updates and patches for both Linux and Windows Servers.
4. Manage server operating system and database user accounts.
5. Resolve server hardware, operating system and database failures.
6. Monitor and maintain system and database health.
7. Act as a Liaison to other WNYRIC teams.
8. Monitor backup and restore jobs at the database and operating system level.
9. Configure and monitor server and database storage and memory needs.
10. Install and configure new hardware devices.
11. Responsible for the design, development, installation, implementation, support and/or maintenance of computer software applications, local area networking operating systems and database systems. Installs, customizes and maintains vendor supplied software for LAN operations.
12. Maintain the integrity and schedule of the OS based and database job runs.
13. Aide application administrator and developers with server-side tasks.
14. Maintain, implement and document disaster recovery infrastructure.
15. Generates Network Service Desk tickets as required. Follows-up and closes all assigned tickets.
16. Prepares documentation, charts, tables and diagrams to assist in analyzing problems, disaster recovery and cyber security risk assessments.
17. Assists in the training and instruction of users in LAN operating systems and/or LAN applications.
18. Performs troubleshooting for computer equipment use in the delivery of BOCES services.
19. Evaluates the network and makes recommendations to other team members and to the Manager.
20. Acts as liaison between the WNYRIC and the customer regarding networked hardware, software, database and application issues.
21. Undertakes physical activities such as keyboarding, lifting, driving a motor vehicle, and tasks related to the installation, troubleshooting and support for computer devices.
22. Completes and submits official forms, time sheets and billing reports, in a timely manner.
23. Maintains communications with supervisors and team members (electronic mail, voice mail, cell phone, etc.).
24. Familiar with setup and use of Windows, Linux, Ethernet, TCP/IP, VPNs, Firewalls, Electronic mail (Outlook et al), PCs, MACs and other technologies, as required by specific assignment.
25. Other duties may be assigned that are relevant to the civil service job description for this title.

- Job Qualifications
Minimum Civil Service Qualifications:
A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four (4) year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of experience in computer programming which included, at least, on (1) year of experience in programming and/or maintenance of vendor supplied operating software; or;
B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two (2) or four (4) year college or university with an Associate’s degree in Data Processing, Computer Science, Business Administration or related field and four (4) years of data processing experience, two (2) years of which, included computer programming, and at least, one (1) year of experience in programming and/or maintenance of vendor supplied operating software; or;
C) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and six (6) years of data processing experience, two (2) years of which, included computer programming, and at least one (1) year of experience in programming and/or maintenance of vendor supplied operating software; or;
D) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), and (C).
Additional Qualifications:
- Proven experience with servers across various operating systems.
- Familiarity with database administration and application support.
- Knowledge of storage and networking concepts is a plus.
- Strong human relations skills to effectively interface with managers, staff, customers, and vendors at all levels.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team. Strong customer service and diagnostic skills.
