Job Responsibilities:

Erie 1 BOCES plays a significant role in coordinating state testing for students in Western NY schools (e.g., Regents exams). We are seeking a Specialist (Senior Training Coordinator) to join our testing team. While this position is not a supervisory role, we are looking for candidates who have an interest in moving into a leadership position over time. Key Responsibilities: - Learn and document the current testing processes. - Provide customer service to school districts by responding to emails and phone calls. - Communicate state testing requirements to school district personnel via training presentations and emails. - Identify opportunities for modernization as state testing requirements evolve. - Act as a liaison among NYS testing departments, Erie 1 BOCES, and school districts. - Participate in statewide testing meetings and conferences.

 

Customer Relations
1. Acts as contact point between school district personnel and the Regional Information Center for assigned software services
2. Responds to user problems and tracks a problem's path to resolution
3. Provides informational materials to users and assists Coordinator and/or Manager in the development of newsletter articles
4. Organizes, prepares for and facilitates user meetings
5. Initiates communication as needed
6. Researches and responds to any questions or problems from districts
7. Prepares or assists in preparation of user documentation
8. Prepares necessary correspondence to school district personnel

Training and Consultation
1. Evaluates district needs and develops requirements and timelines for software implementations, taking into consideration prescribed NYS School Management practices, reporting requirements and individual school district policies
2. Provides district training, one on one, small group and large group for all assigned services
3. Provides training for internal support staff in the concepts of assigned applications, as needed
4. Assists Coordinator and/or Manager with district consultation
5. Attends local and regional vendor-sponsored user meetings and conferences

Internal Duties
1. Exercises an ongoing membership role and an occasional leadership role on the assigned team
2. Provides backup for internal support staff, as needed
3. Initiates maintenance and enhancement requests for assigned applications; tests and implements changes, as needed
4. Communicates with vendor the need for application enhancements desired by users
5. Keeps abreast of State Education Department and other appropriate agency guidelines and prescribed practices
6. Prepares schedules/calendars for processing of application services where appropriate
7. Informs Coordinator and/or Manager of deviations from approved schedules

Other Duties
1. Assists in planning and testing for disaster recovery
2. Researches, develops, and tests emerging software
3. Assists in the gathering and summarizing of information useful in budget preparation
4. Assists with data warehousing initiatives, as appropriate
5. Performs other duties as directed by supervisor

Job Qualifications

Minimum Civil Service Qualifications:

Must hold permanent status as a Senior Training Coordinator; OR; Must be reachable on current Senior Training Coordinator Civil Service list; OR; Must meet minimum qualifications for provisional appointment as follows:

A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of information technology experience involving the development, coordination and delivery of services, which included on-going tasks in planning, coordinating and conducting training programs for users of information technology; OR;

B) Graduation from a New York State Registered college or university with an Associate's degree and seven (7) years of information technology experience involving the development, coordination and delivery of systems development services, at least two (2) years of which included on-going tasks in planning, coordinating and conducting training programs for users of information technology; OR;

C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).

  • Problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Interest in moving into a leadership position over time.

  • Experience with NYS testing or knowledge of NYS Education Department regulations is a plus.
