Job Description:
The Health & Safety Trainer plays a key role in the coordination, documentation, and communication of the department’s safety training and risk reduction services. This position is primarily responsible for the full coordination of CPR/First Aid training programs, including instructor scheduling, certification tracking, and related billing and purchasing. The Health & Safety Trainer also supports the team in field operations as needed and contributes to internal and external communications on emerging health and safety topics.
CPR Program Coordination
- Coordinate all aspects of CPR/First Aid classes, including booking instructors, reserving locations, and managing class rosters.
- Track participant completion and ensure timely issuance of certification cards.
- Monitor training schedules and respond to district inquiries about available sessions.
- Complete associated billing, purchasing, and materials management in collaboration with administrative staff.
Field Support
- Provide on-site support at school districts when additional staffing coverage is needed or during high-volume service periods.
- Assist with compliance inspections, drills, audits, or other health and safety initiatives in collaboration with other analysts.
- Maintain familiarity with key field service protocols to ensure continuity of service when providing coverage.
Communications and Publications
- Draft, edit, and format timely written communications including special alerts, safety updates, event announcements, and program newsletters.
- Monitor local, state, and federal guidance on health and safety topics relevant to K-12 settings and assist in translating guidance into practical communications for district partners.
- Support the development of promotional and informational materials related to the department’s services.
Working Expectations:
- Office and school-based settings
- Occasional lifting of materials and equipment (up to 25 lbs.)
- Travel to component districts within the BOCES region
- Some early morning or evening events to support training schedules

Minimum Civil Service Qualifications:
Must meet minimum civil service qualifications for a provisional appointment as follows:
A) Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree and one (1) year of occupational safety and health or environmental health or risk management experience; or:
B) Possession of an Associate’s Degree* and three (3) years of occupational safety and health or environmental health or risk management experience; or:
C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
