Job Responsibilities: 

• Supervises school health office
• Meets medical and care needs of students and staff in building
• Renders first aide as necessary
• Maintains all records and reporting related to health and safety of students and staff

General Responsibilities:
The Registered Professional Nurse performs professional nursing services at one or more schools in the maintenance of acceptable health standards, school health records, and the emergency treatment of student and employee health problems. 
 

Specific Duties:
1. Dispenses medication prescribed by a licensed physician and monitors the health status of students taking medication as necessary. 
2. Provides assistance to those students with diagnosed medical conditions that require specific support during the school day. 
3. Administers first-aid and emergency treatment to students and staff. 
4. Prepares and maintains student health records for school authorities. 
5. Arranges to transport sick or injured students or staff to hospital, home, and doctor’s office in case of emergency. 
6. Inspects the school plant, cafeteria and reports on general safety and sanitary conditions. 
7. Orders, inventories, and oversees the storage of first-aid and related health supplies and equipment. 
8. Consults with administrators, building staff, resident districts health professionals regarding student health and health issues as needed. 
9. Consults with building principal and staff related to student attendance. 
10. Maintains communication with parents as needed. 
11. Prepares records and reports as required. 
12. Other duties as assigned by building principal.

Erie 1 BOCES seeks a Licensed Practical Nurse for a classroom to serve in a 1 to 1 capacity with a high school student. Kind and caring individuals are encouraged to apply. This position requires working with a student with disabilities under the direction of the classroom teacher and school nurse.  Applicants should have a positive outlook, a strong work ethic and be compassionate.

Job Responsibilities:
1. Participates in assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating the student's plan of care.

• Observes/records the general physical and mental condition of the student and reports pertinent observations to the RN and/or prescribing Physician.

• Administers/records medication ordered as per Physician's script.

• Assists in and performs selected nursing procedures for students receiving specialized treatment under the supervision of the School Nurse.

• Performs standard first aide measures.

• Follows instructions issued by School Nurse and Physician and adheres to established School policies/procedures.

• Follows safety standards and infection control guidelines.

2. Documents pertinent student information in medical records.
3. Maintains open communication with the student, family, co-workers, physicians, and other school personnel.
4. Assists with classroom activities as directed by teacher.
5. Work with individual children as directed by teacher.
6. Assists children with arrival and departure problems involving coats, boots, and lunches.
7. Assists the teacher with the implementation of activities that include but are not limited to range of motion exercises, positioning, feeding, toileting, and other activities in daily living (e.g. grooming, hygiene, leisure/recreation, etc.).
8. Lifts and transports students in conjunction with daily living activities. 
9. Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly work area.
10. All other duties as assigned.
