Erie 1 BOCES seeks a Licensed Practical Nurse for a classroom to serve in a 1 to 1 capacity with a student that is excited about being able to attend school.  Kind and caring individuals are encouraged to apply. This position requires working with a student with disabilities under the direction of the classroom teacher and school nurse.  Applicants should have a positive outlook, a strong work ethic and be compassionate. Must be willing to travel to various classrooms within our district.
 

General Responsibilities:
The Licensed Practical Nurse/Classroom Aide will carry out nursing functions based on the nursing process and in accordance with medical regime, under the direction and supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse; the School Nurse, as well as the complete responsibilities and duties of a classroom aide.

Specific Duties:
1. Participates in assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating the student's plan of care.

  • Observes/records the general physical and mental condition of the student and reports pertinent observations to the RN and/or prescribing Physician.
  • Administers/records medication ordered as per Physician's script.
  • Assists in and performs selected nursing procedures for students receiving specialized treatment under the supervision of the School Nurse.
  • Performs standard first aide measures.
  • Follows instructions issued by School Nurse and Physician and adheres to established School policies/procedures.
  • Follows safety standards and infection control guidelines.

2. Documents pertinent student information in medical records.
3. Maintains open communication with the student, family, co-workers, physicians, and other school personnel.
4. Assists with classroom activities as directed by teacher.
5. Work with individual children as directed by teacher.
6. Assists children with arrival and departure problems involving coats, boots, and lunches.
7. Assists the teacher with the implementation of activities that include but are not limited to range of motion exercises, positioning, feeding, toileting, and other activities in daily living (e.g. grooming, hygiene, leisure/recreation, etc.).
8. Lifts and transports students in conjunction with daily living activities. 
9. Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly work area.
10. All other duties as assigned.

$20.45/hr Plus Generous benefits package
