Coordinator, Staff & Curriculum Development (Behavior/Special Education) | 0825-0016 | THIS IS AN 11-MONTH POSITION Location: Erie 1 BOCES Technology Services Instructional Resource Team E1B Education Campus West Seneca, NY Annual Salary: $66,591 + 1,380 w/Masters Stipend $67,971* Hours: 8:00AM - 4:00PM The Coordinator, Staff and Curriculum Development, Differentiated Instruction strives to meet the organizational and professional needs of the districts for which (s)he supports. The Coordinator, Staff and Curriculum Development, Differentiated Instruction will work in conjunction with the Director, Associate Director, Supervisors, other Coordinators, Staff and Curriculum Development, Differentiated Instruction and Coordinators, Staff and Curriculum Development, Technology Integration by assisting with building the capacity of all leaders, in and out of the classroom as a means to promote system change of teaching and learning; providing quality, sustained professional development that connects educators with innovative approaches to prepare their students for college and career paths. Job Responsibilities: - Special Education and Behavior Support Must hold valid NYS Teaching certification in Special Education or School Social Work, additional certification in Administrative Leadership and a background in Community partnerships, behavioral support, and restorative practices preferred.
- At least three years of full-time teaching or Social Work experience is required.
- Additional skills require knowledge of research based instructional practices and content delivery on the New York State Standards using Specially Designed Instruction, assessment development, and background in data informed decision process.
- The successful candidate should have strong communication skills, problem solving skills, and can connect and work with adult learners.
- Job will require the delivery of professional development, instructional coaching, modeling, and supporting classroom lesson delivery.
- Must have knowledge and practice with technology integration including educational software products, cloud tools (Google/Microsoft Office), technology integration into daily lesson plans.
- Background on Co-Teaching strategies, de-escalation skills, and MTSS preferred.
1. Leadership Capacity Building: - Provides information and planning to superintendents, central office personnel, principals, teachers, students, and Board of Education, as well as, internal BOCES staff for:
- NYS Education Department reform efforts
- Local and regional initiatives
- Guide to school district decision-makers with efficient use of Erie 1 BOCES services and how to effectively implement NYSED reform efforts and initiatives
- Becomes familiar with current research, new theories, current and proposed laws and regulations, and materials pertaining to teaching, learning and leadership and disseminates information to appropriate personnel in districts and internally
- Identify challenges that face districts in the implementation of NYSED reforms or initiatives and work together with other BOCES personnel to develop solutions that will assist all districts during their implementation
2. Service Development -
Assesses and communicates emerging customer needs as it pertains to curriculum, instruction, assessment and data analysis -
Identifies district needs and makes recommendations about professional learning and programming to support effective teaching to enhance student learning and increase student achievement 3. Service Delivery -
Works collaboratively with coordinators to create administrative information, resources, and support district leaders based on local/state/federal initiatives -
Anticipates, creates and delivers high quality staff development opportunities and services in his/her field of expertise that are customized to each district’s and school’s current and emerging needs based on participation. Topics may include, but are not limited to teacher and leader evaluation, curriculum and assessment planning and development, data-driven instruction, coaching, modeling of best practices in an current classroom, planning and development of curriculum projects and learning experiences which utilize best practices and promote higher order thinking skills. -
Coordinates high quality professional development delivery with appropriate clerical and district staff so that billing and other accountability procedures are followed, and all workshop preparations are made. -
Demonstrates credibility with teachers, administrators, educational partners and outside organizations. -
Develops services and/or writes grants to obtain funds to meet current and emerging needs. -
Provide timely communication in response to inquiries and includes follow-up on activities and professional development activities 4. Internal and External Communication -

Keeps current on best practices by reading educational materials and engaging in on-going professional collaboration with other members of the Western New York Regional Information Center, Erie 1 BOCES and other BOCES, school boards, and outside educational professionals and agencies. -
Attends regular statewide meetings in Albany as needed. -
Maintain a leadership role in curriculum, assessment, instruction and data analysis by presenting at local and statewide conferences. 6. Other -

The behavior specialist supports classroom teams in crisis management, assessment of student behavior and planning for proactive behavioral interventions and skill development. Duties of this job require a knowledge of child development, developmental disabilities, behavioral analysis, behavioral intervention techniques and strong interpersonal and communication skills. General Duties: 1. Support students across Erie 1 BOCES Special Education programs. 2. Works with individual students on building social/emotional/behavioral skills. 3. Assists in crisis management including physically intervening when a student displays behavior that are harmful to themselves or others. 4. Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments. 5. Serve on student support teams. 6. Provide consultation to classroom teams. 7. Provide consultation to administrators regarding student support plans. 8. Train school staff on best practices for support of students in classrooms 9. Assists educational teams in implementing proactive behavioral strategies to support individual students, as well as, reinforcing newly acquired skills. 10.
