Job Responsibilities:
Eire 1 BOCES is seeking a classroom teacher for students with Intellectual Disabilities at High School grade levels. The teacher will teach these students a Life Skills curriculum with Work-Based Learning

1. Assesses students, both informally and formally, in order to provide an individualized classroom program

2. Designs plans and appropriate activities to reach individual pupil IEP's

3. Provides an individualized education program for students with disabilities consistent with New York State Common Core Learning Standards and the program's goals and requirements

4. Establishes a classroom environment that provides for the student's social/emotional and behavioral needs as well as academic needs including specific systems of motivation to students

5. Assists and counsels’ students in making realistic assessments of their abilities in establishing educational and/or career goals

6. Keeps attendance records and other reports/records pertinent to the program

7. Provides, when warranted, continuous consultation and/or management outside of the classroom to appropriate personnel

8. Provides assistance to students with general education class assignments

9. Assists in screening, evaluating, and recommending placement of students in the school's program

10. Works cooperatively with regular classroom teachers and staff who have students with disabilities interpreting their abilities, disabilities, and meeting the individual needs of the students

11. Assists other professional staff members in identifying, recommending, and resolving psychological or disciplinary actions unique to the student

12. Confers frequently with parents, professional staff members, building level administrators, and supervisors regarding the students educational, social/emotional, psychological, behavioral, and intellectual potential

13. When appropriate, coordinates, and supervises work experience and on-campus job training programs involving students with disabilities

14. Participates, when appropriate, in continuous professional growth and development related to the field of teaching and/or specific area(s) of expertise

Job Description:
Erie 1 BOCES seeks a Personal Teacher Aide for a High School student in the Life Skills/Work Based Learning Program. Kinda and caring individuals are encouraged to apply.

1. Assists with classroom activities as directed by teacher

2. Works with individual children as directed by teacher

3. Assists children with arrival and departure involving coats, boots, and lunches

4. Helps keep supplies and materials in order

5. Helps prepare materials for their use

6. Cleans up and puts away materials after use

7. Changes children's clothing and cleanses children, if necessary

8. Assists teacher in implementing the classroom and/or individual student's behavior management program

9. Accompanies a child when removal from a classroom is necessary or when the child must go to another part of the building

10. Assists in restraining students who may exhibit behaviors that are injurious to self or others

11. Assists and supervises games and free play, both indoors and outdoors

12. Assists teacher in the implementation of activities that include but are not limited to: feeding, toileting, and other activities of daily living(e.g. grooming, hygiene, leisure/recreation, etc.)

13. Lifts and transports students in conjunction with daily living activities

  • Teacher Aides working with non-ambulatory students are expected to lift 40- pound loads independently and may be required to lift/move students weighing more than 40 pounds with assistance from another adult and/or with the use of appropriate lifting devices
  • SPECIAL NOTE: Ability to lift/move students either independently or with assistance is a condition of employment for teacher aides who work with non-ambulatory students. Initial and periodic physical examinations will test this ability. Teacher aides should not attempt to lift more than one-third of their body weight without assistance from another adult or appropriate lifting devices

14. Be an active part of the classroom education team as demonstrated by following teacher directions, being cooperative, showing support for other team members and focusing on student needs and outcomes

15. Discuss parental requests for information with the teacher before responding

16. Maintains confidentiality of student information
