Job Description:
Erie 1 BOCES seeks Classroom Teacher Aide at our Winchester Academy. Kind and caring individuals are encouraged to apply. These positions require working with students with disabilities under the direction of the classroom teacher. Applicants should have a positive outlook, a strong work ethic and be compassionate.

  1. Assists with classroom activities as directed by the teacher.
  2. Works with individual children as directed by a teacher.
  3. Assists children with arrival and departure involving coats, boots, and lunches.
  4. Helps keep supplies and materials in order.
  5. Helps prepare materials for their use.
  6. Cleans up and puts away materials after use.
  7. Changes children's clothing and cleanses children, if necessary.
  8. Assists the teacher in implementing the classroom and/or individual student's behavior management program.
  9. Accompanies a child when removal from a classroom is necessary or when the child must go to another part of the building.
  10. Assists in restraining students who may exhibit behaviors that are injurious to self or others.
  11. Assists and supervises games and free play, both indoors and outdoors.
  12. Assists the teacher in the implementation of activities that include but are not limited to: feeding, toileting, and other activities of daily living(e.g. grooming, hygiene, leisure/recreation, etc.).
  13. Lifts and transports students in conjunction with daily living activities.
    1. Teacher Aides working with non-ambulatory students are expected to lift 40- pound loads independently and may be required to lift/move students weighing more than 40 pounds with assistance from another adult and/or with the use of appropriate lifting devices.
    2. SPECIAL NOTE: The ability to lift/move students either independently or with assistance is a condition of employment for teacher aides who work with non-ambulatory students. Initial and periodic physical examinations will test this ability. Teacher aides should not attempt to lift more than one-third of their body weight without assistance from another adult or appropriate lifting devices.
  14. Be an active part of the classroom education team, as demonstrated by following teacher directions, being cooperative, showing support for other team members and focusing on student needs and outcomes.
  15. Discuss parental requests for information with the teacher before responding.
  16. Maintains confidentiality of student information.
$15.71/hr Plus Generous Benefits Package

PLUS $1,750 Masters Stipend

Job Responsibilities:
To develop knowledge and skills in the assigned content area necessary for a competitive adult life. To maintain each student in educational setting. To see each student exit the program with a diploma in hand or return successfully to his/her home school.

1. Provide instruction in appropriate academic area.

2. Provide remediation as necessary.

3. Prepare lesson plans and make optimum use of class time to meet stated objectives.

4. Evaluate each pupil's performance, knowledge, and skills in academic area of responsibility.

5. Identify pupil needs and collaborate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve behavioral and learning problems.

6. Participate in the development, implementation and progress monitoring of student IEPs as assigned.

7. Meet with students in small group setting to discuss school, social and personal concerns.

8. Communicate with parents on individual pupil progress or other areas of concern.

9. Join with other staff members in meeting with parents and students at regularly scheduled grade reporting or other relevant meetings.

10. Maintain accurate and complete student records.

11. Guide pupils in selection and performance of appropriate activities.

12. Aid in establishing and maintaining standards of pupil conduct to provide an orderly, safe, and productive environment.

13. Provide encouragement for continuation of formal education and assistance in employment awareness skills.

14. Supervise pupils in/out of classroom program related activities during the day.

15. Assist in the storage, maintenance and use of materials and property.

16. Requisition books, instructional aids, equipment, tools materials, supplies as required.

17. Attend faculty meetings and participate in advisory committee meetings as requested.

18. Maintain professional growth by participating in workshops, conferences, and advanced coursework as appropriate.

19. Participate in planning and developing Program goals, objectives, curricula, and methods as requested.

20. Complete all required paperwork.
