Job Description: Erie 1 BOCES seeks two Classroom Aides for our growing Northtowns Academy. These positions are for either 6:1:1 or 6:1:2 classrooms. Experience is preferred, but all interested persons are encouraged to apply. Applicants should have a positive outlook, strong work ethic and work well on teams. Kind and caring individuals are encouraged to apply. - Assists students in developing work skills and attitudes necessary to perform a specific job as prescribed by the teacher or employer.
- Works along with students as needed to complete tasks and provide a positive work model until such a time as the student can perform job independently.
- In consultation with the teacher learns, adapts when necessary and demonstrates efficient methods to perform individual job tasks. On occasion may include development of modified equipment to address student needs.
- Orients student to work site rest rooms, cafeteria, breaks, "unsafe" areas, emergency procedures, sign-in time sheet, etc.
- Assists the teacher with an assessment of the student's ability to perform individual work tasks and breaks job tasks into separate teachable steps when necessary.
- Coordinates with the student's teacher (classroom and/or career and technical education teacher) and transition teacher a schedule of "fading" assistance in order to maximize independence.
- Demonstrates communication methods with students that will serve as a model for communicating with supervisors and co-workers; facilitates direct communication with people on the job site.
- Monitors quantity and quality of work produced by students to ensure competency with regards to employer's and program's standards and assesses progress in skills development.
- Supplies and maintains all documentation in accordance with Program's requirements
- Represents Program in a positive manner and presents to employer and student an appropriate image to suit various job environments.
- Participates in conferences, in-service training, and consultation with Teachers, Transition Resource Teacher, and others as needed.
- Investigates and implements safe and efficient use of transportation systems for students which might include mobility training.
- Is available to work, on occasion, other than traditional school hours.
- Performs other work duties as they relate to the position.
